It's Now! It's Wow!

Youth Art Exhibit and Auction Wows Supporters!

artwork by Chor BoogieOn the evening of May 20th, Oceanside's Linksoul gallery was abuzz with excitement. Walking through the venue, guests responded to the energetic artwork and youthful vibe with a resounding "wow." The artists behind the photographs and paintings on display were indeed very "now."

The young talent ranged in age from 5 to 17 - their art born out of an urgent need to contribute to their North County Lifeline afterschool program. What a success their contribution turned out to be!

The It's Now! It's Wow! Youth Art auction raised $20,000 to support the positive development of youth in at-risk communities. The silent auction featured canvas and acrylic paintings that showcased the interests and concerns of young people today. Included in the exhibit was a professional display of youth photography produced under the guidance and support of local artist, Dee Ambrosini, who volunteers her time in the afterschool program to teach digital photography and photo editing.

Adrian_SantosTwo of the young artists took turns speaking to the group about the powerful impact Lifeline's afterschool program has had on their lives, giving them a safe place to make friends, strengthen their performance at school, and expand their minds beyond their own neighborhoods.

Another big "wow" came during the live art demonstration by internationally acclaimed spray-paint artist Chor Boogie. The extraordinary piece he created - displayed above - will serve as a reminder of the path Lifeline's young artists can take to rise above the risks they face.

Chor_demoThroughout the evening, a mingling of supporters, volunteers and donors sampled wine, sushi, hors d'oeuvres and delectable desserts, all gifts from our generous underwriters, as they participated in a silent auction. The event culminated in a raffle, featuring a 7-day cruise for two, courtesy of Holland America cruise line, and exciting gift baskets including a Stay-Cation, A Day at the Beach, and a Padres Night Out.

Lifeline Executive Director, Don Stump, summed up the evening "We could not have done the event without the community's support - particularly our underwriters and sponsors. We asked people to help us support our afterschool programs, and they responded with great generosity. I am humbled."
