Organized in 1969, North County Lifeline, Inc. is a non-profit human services organization that offers a wide range of services to the people of North San Diego County. For a more detailed description of the organization's history, click here.
Lifeline's mission is to "build partnerships in North County and deliver services to children, families, and individuals that resolve problems, increase skills, and nurture self-reliance." Assistance is offered regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, and/or ability to pay.
The following principles reflect the agency's approach to service delivery:
- Valuing the inherent worth and dignity of all people. Each and every client is treated with respect.
- Accepting the uniqueness of each person. Each client is individualized in both assessment and assistance.
- Recognizing that human beings are self-determining. Behavior is a manifestation of the ideas, concepts, decisions, values, and goals the individual has created. Lifeline helps clients to recognize and alter those beliefs and viewpoints that interfere with their functioning.
- Appreciating the social context of behavior. Assessment and assistance take into account the social and environmental conditions and situations which impact the client.
-
Facilitating the capacity to change within each person. Although changes can only be made by the client, each client has the potential to do so. Staff remains receptive to clients' change, progress, and positive movement throughout their participation in Lifeline's services.
In designing effective programs that will respond to the needs of the community, Lifeline takes the following approaches to our service delivery:
- One-Stop Shop: Youth and families can receive assistance for multiple needs at a Lifeline location or through their primary Lifeline contact.
- Wrap-Around: Through collaboration with other organizations and community support networks, Lifeline assures that clients are "wrapped in" or linked to services that will help them resolve their problems and achieve personal growth.
- Motivational Interviewing©: This evidence-based practice is designed to catalyze motivation to change from the participant's own desires. Motivational Interviewing is a fundamental tenet of Lifeline's client services.
