Mediation

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program

Mediation and Conciliation

Got a problem? Can't seem to work it out? ADR offers an alternative to the formal court system for individuals seeking resolution to their disputes. Sometimes we can work it out on the phone. You don't even have to leave your home! This is called conciliation .

Sometimes you need to meet with a neutral third party. This is called mediation . Trained mediators sit down with you and the other party for a problem solving session. Mediation and conciliation can be useful with a variety of issues, including:

  • Domestic
  • Landlord-Tenant/Fair Housing
  • Consumer-Merchant
  • Employer-Employee
  • Parent-Teen
  • Collection

Small Claims Court Mediation Services

Lifeline provides free mediation services onsite at the North County Regional Center for self-represented Small Claims litigants. Mediation staff and volunteers attend each Small Claims Court session to offer mediation as an alternative to trial. Prospective mediation participants are screened for eligibility based on the subject matter of their dispute and jurisdiction/geographic requirements. Litigants who do not meet service eligibility criteria are provided with community education and are referred to other agencies.
