A a volunteer gardener, you'd support North County Lifeline’s after school program. Club Crown Heights at La Casita is set up as an early intervention program for at-risk youth and provide services for (on average) 60 children ages 6 to 12 on a daily basis. The site allows for a safe space for children to go to when released from school. The garden is used as an educational tool to help introduce the children to the health benefits of new fruits and vegetables and the basics of growing food and its connection to the natural world. We have a variety of times and commitments available:
Occasional Garden Support would ensure the garden is maintained and watered by communicating with other staff and volunteers to fill gaps.
Weekly Gardener would come in the afternoon Monday, Wednesday, or Friday every week to water, weed when needed, and harvest the bountiful fruits and vegetables grown.
Garden Resource Manager would maintain the physical space of the garden, supply closets, tools, and other similar resources. This needs to be done on-campus, but not necessarily during after-school program hours and we prefer a six-month minimum commitment.
